Tennis Team Looks to Add to Win Streak at Princeton

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- After earning a pair of wins last weekend, the Syracuse women’s tennis team will hit the courts at Princeton on Friday night. The Orange will be looking for its first road win of the season against the Tigers and will look to sophomore Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) to lead them in her hometown as she has won four consecutive matches at flight one singles. SU will play Temple at Princeton on Saturday.

SU, which is 2-2 on the season, earned a pair of victories last weekend against Buffalo and Colgate. Several Orange stepped up with solid performances in its 6-1 win against Buffalo. Junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) knocked off the 28^th ranked player in the East Region in straight sets against the Bulls, while freshman Maria Vasilyeva (St. Petersburg, Russia) won her first collegiate dual match as she had the match-clinching victory at flight four.

Senior Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia) has the potential to move up to 19^th all-time at SU in career wins. She currently has 111 career triumphs and has Gillian Tippett (20^th, 112) and Susan Rice (19^th, 113) in her sights.

The Orange trails in the all-time series against Princeton, 7-2, after losing to the Tigers, 5-2, last season. Princeton enters the weekend with a record of 2-2 after beating St. John’s 5-0, on Feb. 11. Each of Princeton’s victories this season have come against BIG EAST opponents.
