Orange Has Setback on the Road

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team had its win streak stopped at two match on Friday night as the Orange lost on the road at Princeton, 6-1. SU lost two three setters in the dual.
The Orange captured the doubles point after getting a win at number two doubles from senior Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Mayasia) and junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.). The 8-5 victory at flight 2 doubles was the 112 win of her career and tied her for 20th all-time at SU in career wins. SU closed out the doubles point by earning an 8-5 at number three from juniors Ashley Lipton (Saratoga, Calif.) and Carolina Huignard (Don Mills, Ontario).
SU went on to get swept in singles play with sophomore Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) losing in a third set superbreaker, 5-7, 7-5, (10-6) at number one singles. At number two, sophomore Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lost 6-2, 6-0, while at number three, Bramante lost in straight sets as well, 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman Maria Vasilyeva (St. Petersburg, Russia) dropped a pair of highly contested sets at number four, losing 6-4, 7-5. Lipton jumped out to a lead by winning the first set of her match at flight five however dropped the next two 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Zeljka Juricek (Zagreb, Croatia) lost 6-4, 6-3 at number six.
The Orange is now 2-3 with the loss and will look to add to the win column on Saturday when it plays Temple in Princeton, N.J.
