Women’s Tennis Defeats Temple

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Orange women’s tennis team earned a 6-1 victory against Temple in Princeton, N.J. on Saturday. Junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) led the SU with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at flight three singles, while teaming with senior Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia) to win at number two doubles. The win was Leong’s 113th career win and moved her to 19th all-time at SU in career wins.
SU earned the doubles after sweeping all three matches. Sophomore’s Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won 8-6 at flight one while Leong/Bramante won 8-4 at flight two. At number three, juniors Ashley Lipton (Saratoga, Calif.) and Carolina Huignard (Don Mills, Ontario) cruised to an 8-0 victory.
In singles play, Vaynberg earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number one, while Zawadzki was defeated in three sets at number two. With Bramante earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three, freshman Maria Vasilyeva (St. Petersburg, Russia) won 6-1, 6-1 at number four. Lipton picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at flight five with Huignard winning at flight six after her opponent was forced to retire after just three games.
The Orange improves to 3-3 with the win and will next be in action on Friday Feb. 24 when it hosts Army at the Drumlins Tennis Club.
