WASHINGTON, D.C. - Two members of the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team were named to the Preseason Watch List for the 2006 Tewaaraton Trophy, which is awarded annually to the nation’s top player. Senior attackman Brian Crockett (Yorktown, N.Y./Yorktown HS) and senior midfielder Greg Rommel (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger HS) are among the 53 players nominated by the Tewaaraton Men’s Selection Committee.
As a junior, Crockett led the team in scoring with 35 goals and 42 points and was an STX/USILA Third-Team All-America selection. He finished the season ranked sixth in the nation in goals per game (2.69) and equaled his career high with six goals and one assist in a 14-13 win over Albany. He moved up to twenty-first on the Syracuse all-time goals list with 94.
Rommel scored a career-high 28 points in 2005 and ranked third on the team with 25 goals. He scored at least one goal in every game and two or more in nine games. He was an STX/USILA Second-Team All-America selection last year and is one of SU’s four captains for the 2006 season.
Syracuse opens its regular season schedule Saturday, February 25 when it hosts Army at 4 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
