SU CLOSES OUT 2005-06 AT #16/14 DePaul
The Orange wrap up the 2005-06 campaign by taking on its third ranked foe in the last four games, #16/14 DePaul on Feb. 28. Syracuse has lost its last six in a row and concluded its home schedule on Feb. 25 with a 72-53 loss at Manley Field House against St. John’s. Syracuse enters Tuesday’s contest with an overall record of 9-17 and a 2-13 mark in BIG EAST play.

DePaul has won its last five games and is 23-5 overall and 10-5 in conference action. The Blue Demons have been ranked in the two national polls all season and are dueling with St. John’s for the third seed in the upcoming conference championship.

ECKHART HEADS HOME
Syracuse’s game at DePaul will represent a homecoming for freshman guard Jenny Eckhart. Eckhart hails from Libertyville, Ill. and attended Carmel High School, which is approximately 40 miles from Chicago. Eckhart graduated from Carmel as the school’s career leader in points and assists and was a first-team all-state selection as a senior. She has started every game of her rookie campaign for the Orange and is third on the team in scoring at 10.0 points per game.

JOHNSON HAS CAREER DAY
Freshman point guard Cintia Johnson registered the first double-digit scoring outing of her career in SU’s home finale against St. John’s on Feb. 25 at Manley Field House. Johnson netted 12 points versus the Red Storm. She was 3-of-8 from the field and connected on a personal-best 6-of-10 attempts from the free-throw line. It was the first time this year Johnson led the Orange in scoring. She also notched a team-high three steals in the contest.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS
The Blue Demons haven’t lost since a 67-57 defeat against Rutgers on Feb. 4 They won their last five and are the one of the top offensive teams in the nation. They lead the BIG EAST and rank 10th in the national rankings in scoring offense at 77.0 points per game. DePaul also leads the league and is fourth in the country in assists per game (18.89). The Blue Demons have done the job on the glass, out-rebounding their opponents by an average margin of 7.7 boards per contest, the top rebounding margin in the conference. DePaul’s top scorer and rebounder is Khara Smith. A preseason all-league selection, Smith is averaging a double-double at 17.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. The marks rank third and first in the BIG EAST, respectively. She is the Blue Demons’ all-time leading rebounder (1,293) and ranks in the top six in 11 of 17 statistical categories in DePaul’s record book. Allie Quigley is second on the club in scoring (15.8 ppg) and is tied for the team lead in assists (98). Doug Bruno is in his 20th season as the head coach of the Blue Demons. He is 371-215 (.633) and has guided the team to the NCAA Tournament 10 times. DePaul has been tough to beat at home this year. It is 13-1 at home this year with its only home defeat coming against Connecticut on Jan. 28.
