CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore Jillian Drouin (Corunna, Ontario) broke the Syracuse, Invitational, and Cobb Stadium record as she won the heptathlon with 4,954 points at the Hurricane Invitational this weekend hosted by the University of Miami. Sophomore Kaitlin Lambracht (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) finished third in the event with 4,785 points, which also topped the old school record.
Along with Drouin, the men produced a pair of winners at the meet. Junior Aulton Kohn (Beaufort, S.C.) continues his winning ways as he won the 100m dash with a time of 10.69 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 200m dash at 22.22 seconds. Senior Joshua Johnson (Columbia, S.C.) took the title in the triple jump with a leap of 14.96m.
Senior Chris Telesford (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.65m. He also finished 10th in the long jump at 6.32m. Junior Daniel Pribula (Strongsville, Ohio) finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 16.10m. Freshman Jake Puusalu (Chemung, N.Y.) finished sixth in the 200m dash at 22.26 seconds and classmate Bernard Bush (Tacoma, Wash.) placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.65m.
The men qualified for the IC4A Championship in four events. Kohn qualified in the 100m, while Johnson and Pribula qualified in their respective events. Telesford also qualified in the triple jump.
The 4x100 relay team of Kohn, sophomore Dong Woo Shin (Junction City, Ore.), sophomore Marcus Vaughn (North Attleboro, Mass.), and junior Martin Semenowicz (London, Ontario) qualified for the IC4As with a time of 42.33 seconds.
On the women’s side, seniors Tatiana Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas) both had strong showings in the Orange’s first outdoor meet of the season. Warren finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.53m and fourth in the long jump at 6.02m. Hernandez placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.58m and fourth in the discus throw at 46.58m. Junior Sheron Mark (Port of Spain, Trinidad) placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.37m and senior Jessyca Jackson (Harrisburg, Pa.) finished fifth in the pole vault by clearing 3.35m. Junior Kyra James (Danbury, Conn.) placed ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.23m and sophomore Keisha Townsend (San Jose, Calif.) finished 10th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.20.
Warren and Hernandez both qualified for the ECAC Championship in both of their events, while Mark’s triple jump qualified her for the championship. Drouin and Lambracht both qualified in the heptathlon.
The track and field squad is back in action next weekend when it travels to Raleigh, N.C. to compete in the Raleigh Relays.
