DAVIE, Fla. – Former Orange football standout Will Allen signed with the Miami Dolphins, announced yesterday by the organization. Allen spent five years with the New York Giants which drafted him 22nd overall in the 2001 NFL Draft.
Allen has been a starter for the Giants from the beginning, starting in 71 of the 72 regular seasons he has played in with New York. In the past two seasons, he has yet to miss a start. In his five-year career, Allen has totaled 274 tackles, eight interceptions, 68 passes defended, three fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. In his rookie season in 2001, he led the Giants with a career-high four interceptions. Allen was the first Giants rookie to lead the team in picks since 1988.
At Syracuse, Allen finished his Orange career with 142 tackles, four interceptions, and 38 passes defended. He ranks fourth on the single-season passes defended list with 19. For a career, Allen is second all-time in passes defended with 42. His five pass break ups against Kentucky in 1999 is the second-most in a single game, while his 19 break ups in 2000 is tied for first all-time. Allen’s 38 career pass break ups is second in Orange history. In 2000, Allen was a first-team All-BIG EAST selection.
Allen is a native of Syracuse and attended Corcoran High School.
