The last regular-season meeting between the Syracuse and Courtland men’s lacrosse teams took place on this date in 1989. Gary Gait scored nine seconds into the game and the Orange scored 12 unanswered goals in a 25-4 victory. Gait scored four goals in the first five minutes of the game and finished with seven goals and an assist. Paul Gait added three goals and four assists in the victory.
In 2003 Syracuse hosted rival Princeton. The Orange led by two, 5-3, at halftime, and Steve Vallone’s fourth goal of the game gave SU an 8-4 advantage with 6:29 remaining in the third quarter. The Tigers responded with five straight goals to take a 9-8 lead with 12:22 left to play. The two teams traded goals as Mike Springer’s goal tied the score, 10-10, with less than six minutes to play. Princeton’s Brad Dumont found the back of the cage with just 2:55 remaining to give the Tigers an 11-10 victory.
More than 30,000 fans gathered in the Carrier Dome for the 2002 NCAA Men’s Basketball East Regional semifinals. In the first game of the evening, Connecticut defeated Southern Illinois, 71-59. Eventual national champion Maryland beat Kentucky, 78-68, in the second game to advance to the Elite Eight.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
