Syracuse University football fans are invited to preview the 2006 Orange at the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 15 in the Carrier Dome. The team will take the field at 12:30 p.m. and the offense vs. defense scrimmage will begin at 1:00 p.m. Admission to the event is free and parking is available in the Stadium West lots (between the Dome and Interstate 81) at no charge.
“It will be competitive and fun,” said Orange head coach Greg Robinson. “We will look for execution and effort. We have to keep working and developing.”
The Carrier Dome will open at 11:00 a.m. for the annual “Select Your Seat Day” giving fans the opportunity to purchase their 2006 season tickets. All tickets will be available, including 2006 season tickets, special ticket packages and individual game packages. All lower level gates at the Carrier Dome will be open at 11:00 a.m. The first 300 fans who renew their season tickets or purchases new season tickets at the Carrier Dome on April 15 will receive a Legend of 44 DVD for free (limit 1 per account).
At the conclusion of the game, all fans are invited onto the Carrier Dome field to meet Coach Robinson and their favorite players and coaches and get their autographs.
“Hopefully our scoring system will keep the game competitive to the end and fun for our fans to try and keep up with the system,” Robinson said.
The scoring system includes points for the offense and defense, including:
- Every explosive play (runs of 12-plus yards, a completion of 16-plus yards) (one point for the offense).
- Three consecutive 1st downs in a drive (one point for the offense).
- Offense scores a touchdown (six points). Made extra point (one point offense), if missed (one point defense).
- Defense forces a three-and-out series (two points)
- Defense creates a turnover (three points).
- Defense scores a touchdown on a turnover (seven points, no extra point attempt).
- Offense scores a field goal (three points). A missed field goal (three points for the defense)
- Quarterback sack (one point for defense)
- If a drive starts at the defensive 35-yard line or in (sudden change) and the defense holds to a field goal or less (four points for the defense).
- The offense or defense will get the maximum number of points for a certain play rather than the cumulative total. For example: A long touchdown pass = 6 points offense, no additional points for the explosive play. An interception for a touchdown = 7 points defense, no additional 3 points for the turnover.
The game will be broadcast on www.suathletics.com as part of the Orange All-Access package. Voice of the Orange Matt Park and SU Director of Football Operations Reggie Terry will provide the insight and analysis. Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross will also participate in the broadcast. @FORMLINK@
