Rowan and DePetris Named To BIG EAST Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Kathryn Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) and junior Jill DePetris (Radnor, Pa.) were both named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, announced today by the conference office. Rowan led the Orange in points against Albany and No. 1 Northwestern while DePetris picked up 11 ground balls and added three points.
Syracuse has earned the most selections to the BIG EAST Honor Roll so far this year with seven student-athletes on the list. Georgetown has had six student-athletes named to the Honor Roll and Loyola has had five. Rowan has had the most selections of any other student-athlete in the BIG EAST with four, tied with Loyola’s Kate McHarg. SU has also had a BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week in senior Jen Kasel (Mountain Lakes, N.J.).
Rowan’s fourth selection to the Honor Roll comes after leading the Orange with six goals, four assists, and 10 points. She recorded four goals and two assists in the 17-5 win against Albany, her second-straight game with six points. In SU’s 13-11 loss to top-ranked Northwestern, she posted two goals and two assists. Rowan’s hat trick against Albany was her sixth of the season, and third-straight. She currently leads Syracuse with 29 goals, eight assists, and 37 points.
This is DePetris’ first honor of the 2006 season. She led Syracuse last week with 11 ground balls and four caused turnovers while adding two goals and an assist. Against the Great Danes, DePetris posted a goal, an assist, five ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers. Against the Wildcats, she matched her career-high with six ground balls while adding a goal and two more caused turnovers. DePetris leads the Orange with 35 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Her seven assists are second on the team and she has also added nine goals and 11 draw controls.
Syracuse (7-3, 1-1) heads to the road on Saturday, April 8, when it faces Loyola at 3:30 p.m. in a BIG EAST clash.
