FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Tebucky Jones, an eight-year veteran of the NFL and former Syracuse standout, has signed with his former team, the New England Patriots, announced yesterday by the organization. Jones spent his first five years with the Patriots, which drafted him 22nd overall in the 1998 NFL Draft. He also had stints with the New Orleans Saints and most recently with AFC East rival Miami.
In eight NFL seasons, Jones has totaled 420 tackles, including 299 solo, four and a half sacks, six interceptions for 73 yards, 41 passes defended, six forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. In his first five years with the Patriots, Jones played in 72 games, starting 36 of them. He has 110 career games under his belt with 72 total starts. Last season at Miami, he started the first six games of the season and posted 35 tackles before a chest injury cut his season short.
Jones was an important part of New England’s Super Bowl title run in 2001. That year in the playoffs, he amassed 15 tackles and hand an interception against Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship game.
Jones spent his first three years in Orange at tailback where he accumulated 495 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He also added a one-yard touchdown rush in 1997. As a senior, he moved to safety and was fourth on the team in tackles with 72, including 47 solo stops. He was second on the team with four interceptions for a team-best 104 yards, including a 98-yard return touchdown return against Tulane, which stands as the second-longest pick return in school history. He also posted seven pass break ups and three fumble recoveries.
In 1997, Jones was a second-team All-BIG EAST selection.
