Lipton Breaks School Record in Orange Victory

STORRS, CONN. – Junior Ashley Lipton (Saratoga, Calif.) broke the SU school record for consecutive singles victories with her win at flight four singles at Connecticut on Friday. The Orange defeated the Huskies, 6-1, to improve to 13-5 (5-1 BIG EAST). Lipton now owns the school's longest singles winning streak with 13 consecutive triumphs.
The Orange won the doubles point despite having to forfeit at number three. Sophomores Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won 8-6 at number one doubles, while Lipton and junior Carolina Huignard (Don Mills, Ontario) won 8-3 at number two.
Vaynberg earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number one singles, while Zawadzki won 6-3, 6-0 at number two. Junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) needed a third-set super-breaker at number three, however won, 10-6 in the decisive breaker.
Lipton was pushed in the first set of her match at number four before running away with the second for a 6-4, 6-0 victory. Huignard won 6-0, 6-2 at number five.
The Orange will next be in action on Saturday when it travels to play its final road dual of the season at Seton Hall at 1 p.m.
