Orange Competes In Sam Howell Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Syracuse track and field squad competed in the Sam Howell Invitational on April 7-8 at Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton. Freshman Nana Sang-Bender (Syracuse, N.Y.) posted the Orange’s lone win on the day as she took the 1500m event. Sophomore Marcus Vaughn (North Attleboro, Mass.) qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 100m hurdles.

Sang-Bender won the 1500m with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 4:36.84. Vaughn finished third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.71. Freshman Terry Marshall (St. Michael, Barbados) qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the 400m hurdles by placing fourth with a time of 55.52.

For the men, senior Chris Mulsoon (Robesonia, Pa.) placed fourth in the 1500m by clocking in at 4:00.64. Junior Martin Semenowicz (London, Ontatio) finished third in the 100m with a time of 11.15 while sophomore Dong Woo Shin (Junction City, Ore.) finished in seventh at 11.21. Shin also placed seventh in the 200m with a time of 22.55. Freshman Skyy Simmons (Upper Marlboro, Md.) placed sixth in the 400m hurdles at 55.90 and classmate Daniel Kelly (Auburn, N.Y.) finished in ninth at 57.08. Freshman Jake Puusalu (Chemung, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 200m by clocking in at 22.34 and sophomore Zach Whalen (Jamesville, N.Y.) placed fifth in the pole vault by clearing 4.45m.

On the women’s side, sophomore Kathleen Sanborn (Rutland, Vt.) placed fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:41.40. Sophomore Keisha Townsend (San Jose, Calif.) placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a mark of 15.29. In the 400m, freshman Amanda Pope (Springfield, Mass.) placed sixth at 1:00.96 while classmate Lauren McClenney (Ellicott City, Md.) placed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.26. Sophomore Stephanie Smolenski (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) placed sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.57m.
