The Carrier Dome was the site of NCAA men’s lacrosse action on this date in 2003 when Syracuse hosted Dartmouth in the first round of the tournament. The Orange came from behind as Sean Lindsay scored twice in the final 2:42 to push SU past the Big Green, 13-11.
Dartmouth, making its first NCAA Tournament appearance, outscored the Orange, 4-2, in the third quarter to take a 9-8 lead heading into the final period. The Big Green scored 39 seconds into the fourth quarter to take a two-goal lead. Syracuse responded with two straight goals to tie the score with 8:14 remaining. Dartmouth scored its final goal of the game at the 4:23 mark to re-gain the lead. The Orange wasn’t finished as Lindsay tied the score with 2:42 left to play. Syracuse then took the lead for good on Michael Springer’s goal just 24 seconds later, and Lindsay added an insurance goal with his third tally of the game with 1:55 remaining.
Brian Nee also finished with three goals for the Orange, while Michael Powell had one goal and three assists. SU goalie Jay Pfeifer finished the game with 12 saves.
The men’s squad completed an undefeated regular-season with a 26-6 victory against Maryland-Baltimore County on this date in 1984. Brad Kotz scored a team-high four goals to go along with three assists. Tom Nelson finished with three goals and four assists, while Randy Lundblad had three goals and three assists.
In addition, the Dome hosted the Kidney Foundation Dinner on this date in 1991.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
In the first 25 years of the Dome, more than 1,740 events were staged, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events.
