McBride Inks Deal with WNBA's Chicago Sky

CHICAGO, Ill. – Former Syracuse women’s basketball star Julie McBride has signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Sky of the WNBA. McBride joins Leigh Aziz and Beth Record as SU alumnae that have at one time been members of WNBA rosters. Aziz signed as a free agent with the Indiana Fever in 2003 and Record was the second round draft pick of the Los Angeles Sparks in 2001.
McBride graduated Syracuse as the school’s all-time leader in points (1,605), scoring average (14.2 ppg), field goal attempts (1,378), 3-pointers (229), 3-point field goal attempts (707), free throws (348), assists (574), assists average (5.1 apg) and minutes played (3,964). She was a three-time All-BIG EAST selection.
McBride competed for the San Jose Spiders of the NWBL in 2005 and 2006. She averaged 17.7 points per game in 2005 and 8.8 points per outing last season.
She will join the likes of Stacey Dales and 2006 first round pick Candice Dupree on the Sky’s roster. Chicago, an expansion franchise, will play pre-season games versus Los Angeles (May 9) and Seattle (May 12) before its inaugural WNBA contest at Charlotte on May 20.
The Sky is coached by former Boston Celtic great and NBA Hall of Famer Dave Cowens. Its home arena will be UIC Pavilion on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
