BALTIMORE, Md. – Former Syracuse men’s lacrosse standout Pat McCabe was enshrined in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame at the 2006 induction ceremony Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley, Md. McCabe was one of 10 lacrosse legends to make up the Hall of Fame’s 49th class.
McCabe was a two-time member of the U.S. national team (1998, 2006) and has been one of the game’s most dominant defensemen. He was a three-time All-American at Syracuse, earning first-team honors in 1989 and 1990, and he helped the Orange to three straight national championships. In 1990, he received the Schmeisser Award as the nation’s outstanding defenseman.
On the professional level, he was a two-time all-pro with the New York Saints in the National Lacrosse League and he helped Long Island to Major League Lacrosse championships in 2001 and 2003. He has also been inducted into the U.S. Lacrosse Long Island Metro Chapter Hall of Fame.
McCabe joins “Feffie” Barnhill (Ursinus), Jeffrey Cook (Johns Hopkins), Michael Coughlin (Navy), Danielle Gallagher (William & Mary) “Josie” Harper (West Chester), Gloria Heath (Smith College), Daniel Mackesey (Cornell), John Phillips (Cornell) and Sandy (Bryan) Weatherall (Dartmouth) as members of this year’s induction class.
McCabe is the 20th Syracuse lacrosse great to be honored by the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Paul and Gary Gait were the Orange’s most recent honorees. They were inducted in 2005.
