Former Syracuse student-athletes have not only succeeded during their careers at SU, but they have also been able to translate their success to the NFL. There are currently 35 former Orange standouts who are in the NFL, including 10 players from the 2005 SU team.
Over the next two weeks, SUathletics.com will take a closer look at each of the former SU players, breaking it down division-by-division. We will start with the AFC East and the five Orange athletes who compete in that division on Tuesday.
The SU graduates who are currently in NFL camps include Baltimore offensive tackle Adam Terry, Chicago fullback Thump Belton, Cleveland linebacker Clifton Smith, Dallas offensive tackle Matt Tarullo, Denver offensive tackle P.J. Alexander and fullback Kyle Johnson, Houston linebacker Morlon Greenwood, Indianapolis defensive end Dwight Freeney, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, running back James Mungro and defensive end Josh Thomas, Jacksonville free safety Donovin Darius, Kansas City running back Dee Brown, tackle Kevin Sampson and linebacker Rich Scanlon, Miami kicker Olindo Mare and cornerback Will Allen, Minnesota cornerback Will Hunter, New England strong safety Tebucky Jones, New York Giants free safety Quentin Harris, running back Greg Hanoian and wide receiver David Tyree, Oakland wide receiver Johnnie Morant, Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb and Tennessee linebacker Keith Bulluck.
Members of the 2005 Orange squad who are in the NFL are Atlanta offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka, Arizona tight end Alex Shor, Baltimore defensive end Ryan LaCasse, Houston running back Damien Rhodes, Jacksonville defensive end James Wyche, Kansas City offensive lineman Steve Franklin, New England defensive end Kader Drame, New York Jets tight end Joe Kowalewski, Pittsburgh free safety Anthony Smith and San Diego cornerback Steve Gregory.
