SU to Participate in 2006 San Juan Shootout

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The SU women’s basketball squad is one of four teams that will participate in the 11th annual San Juan Shootout which will be held at the Mario Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico from Dec. 19-20. The Orange will take on TCU on Dec. 19 at 9:00 p.m. and square off against Loyola University (Chicago) on Dec. 20 at 7:00 p.m. Fellow BIG EAST member DePaul will complete the four-team tournament field.
TCU posted a 19-12 record in 2005-06 and returns four starters from a team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Loyola went 4-25 last season and has three starters from last year’s team on its current roster, including 2006 All-Horizon League honoree Marquise Hanser.
The games will mark the first meetings for the Orange versus both TCU and Loyola.
This marks Syracuse’s second appearance in the San Juan Shootout. The Orange went 0-2 with losses to North Carolina State and Arizona State in the 1996 edition of the event.
SU first-year interim head coach Quentin Hillsman returns all five starters from last year’s team and 10-of-12 letterwinners from 2005-06.
