Former Syracuse defensive end Ryan LaCasse signed a three-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens took LaCasse in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
Director of college scouting Eric DeCosta felt fortunate that LaCasse was available with the 219th-overall selection and called the linebacker a "30-30-30 guy," which means LaCasse could do over 30 reps with the 225-pound bench press, had a 30-inch or more vertical leap and scored over 30 on the Wonderlic test.
"Every year, there are only a handful of those guys in the draft, and they usually end up being able to help you in different ways," said DeCosta after the draft. "Usually, they're smart, they can run, they can tackle, they're explosive, and Ryan was one of those guys."
LaCasse will play a hybrid-type of position that is a mix of defensive end and linebacker for the defense, as well as contribute on special teams.
LaCasse earned All-BIG EAST First Team accolades following his senior season. He recorded 52 tackles, nine sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception. For his career, LaCasse registered 116 tackles, 16.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, one interception and fumble recovery. His sack total is tied for the 10th-highest all-time in school history.
