Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross will appear on “The Stephen A. Smith” radio show on 1050 ESPN Radio in New York City today to announce a partnership that details the addition of 1050 ESPN Radio to the Syracuse ISP Sports Network. The show will broadcast live from the ESPN Zone at Times Square (1472 Broadway at 42nd Street) in New York City from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Gross will be a guest at 12:40 p.m. with 1050's Brandon Tierney, co-host of the Stephen A. Smith Show. Former Syracuse standout running back Joe Morris will be on hand during the broadcast. Click here to listen to the broadcast.
“To be on ESPN Radio in New York City and to start this long-term partnership with our friends at ESPN Radio is monumental for Syracuse University,” Gross said. “We are very excited about the opportunity to broadcast our games in the city. At Syracuse, we believe that we should represent the entire state of New York, including New York City.
“This is all part of our ‘Oranges in the Apple’ campaign. We do believe we are New York’s college team. This reinforces that. It is important for Syracuse to be in New York City with all of our wonderful alums and fans who live there. This is the most significant radio announcement we believe we have had in the history of the program. ESPN Radio brings so much to the table. They are always on the cutting edge of presenting sports the right way. This partnership will be unbelievable for both of us.”
Gross and ESPN Radio program director Mike Thompson worked together on the three-year agreement that includes the broadcast of all Syracuse Football games, select basketball games, the Greg Robinson show and the Jim Boeheim Show.
“It seems only natural for ESPN Radio's New York Flagship station to partner with New York's College Football Team, The Syracuse Orange,” Thompson said. “1050 ESPN Radio is thrilled to be serving the vast Orange Nation in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut with Syracuse Football on the radio. Since so many staff at ESPN graduated from Syracuse, bringing Syracuse sports to 1050 ESPN was a natural decision.”
In addition to the broadcast announcement, Brandon Steiner of Steiner Sports and a 1981 Syracuse graduate, will be at the ESPN Zone to discuss Steiner’s unique partnership with Syracuse University.
1050 ESPN Radio is a 50,000 watt radio station with studios above Madison Square Garden serving New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Metro area.
