Williamsburg, Va.- The Orange lost its second game of the season to William & Mary, 3-0. It is the third time in history the Orange has opened the season 0-2. Head coach Pat Farmer felt his team played better than in the opener against eighth-ranked Virginia.
"We had better chances this game, but again, we just didn't finish," Farmer said. "We weren't very dangerous out there. We did play tighter defensively and had some nice crosses. We had a much better opportunity today."
The game remained scoreless until the 18th minute when William & Mary scored on a free kick after a yellow card was issued to sophomore defender Samantha Hawn for persistent interference. The Tribe added another goal in the 33rd minute and tacked on a final goal in the 73rd. Freshman goalie Eliza Bennett-Hattan made seven saves in her first-career start for the Orange. Farmer is going to give each of his three goalies a chance to start early in the season.
Farmer was given a red card for language after discussing Hawn's yellow card with the referee. Sophomore Amanda Arcuri received two yellow cards withing five minutes of one another at the end of the game. Neither will be available for the game on Friday against Wake Forest.
The Orange (0-2-0) visit #23 Wake Forest (0-1-1) on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
