SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Orange lacrosse legend and current star of the San Francisco Dragons Ryan Powell was named the 2006 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) MVP. He is the first player in the history of the league to win the honor twice. Powell was also tabbed league MVP in 2001.
Powell finished the regular season with 34 goals, 24 assists and led San Francisco to a berth in the MLL semifinals in its inaugural campaign. His 58 points were second in the league only behind Conor Gill of Boston who tallied 62.
Powell scored 45 points in a five-game stretch at one point in 2006, an average of nine per game. Against Denver on June 10, he tied the league record with nine goals, and added three assists for a total of 12 points against the Denver Outlaws in a, 25-20, Dragons' win.
Powell is the league's third-leading all-time scorer with 292 career points.

At Syracuse, Powell earned All-America honors four times (1997-00) and was a member of the 2000 national championship squad. He is tied for second on the Orange’s career points list with his brother (Casey) at 287.
