Orange Takes On #6 West Virginia In First BIG EAST Road Contest

The Syracuse women's soccer team (1-6-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) travel to Morgantown for a matchup with sixth-ranked West Virginia (6-0-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The game will be the second BIG EAST game for both teams and the Orange's third road contest against a nationally ranked opponent this season.
Syracuse and West Virginia first met in 1996 and the series is tied 3-3-1. Syracuse won the first three meeting of the series and West Virginia followed with three-consecutive victories of its own. Last season, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie. Sarah VanSickle scored her first career goal in the 73rd minute to tie the game for the Orange.
West Virginia is ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA national poll. The Mountaineers lead the BIG EAST in points (85), goals (31), and are second in assists (23). Sophomore forward Deana Everett is second in the BIG EAST in goals (eight) and third in points (19). The Mountaineers have allowed only four goals this season. Senior goalkeeper Lana Bannerman is fifth in the conference in goals against average (0.49) and eighth in save percentage (.833).
The Orange returns to SU Soccer Stadium for another BIG EAST match against Pittsburgh (5-2-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
