CINCINNATI, Ohio – The SU men’s soccer team (4-5-0, 0-5-0) lost its fifth straight BIG EAST game on Saturday, Sept. 23, 3-0, against Cincinnati (6-3-1, 3-2-0) at Gettler Stadium. SU sophomore keeper Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario) matched his season high with four saves in the contest to raise his career total to 104.
Cincinnati’s Omar Cummings, the conference’s preseason Offensive Player of the Year, notched two assists in the game and the led the Bearcats’ offense with eight shots. Kenny Anaba, Noah Davidson and Kwame Sarkodie each had goals for Cincinnati.
Anaba got the Bearcats on the scoreboard in the 38th minute on a header from just inside six yards out, and Davidson scored off a rebounded cross 1:20 into the second half to put Cincinnati in front, 2-0. Sarkodie produced the final margin with shot to the lower far post of the SU net at 84:01.
The Bearcats outshot SU, 21-9, in the contest and held the edge in corners, 7-4, including a 6-0 advantage in the first half.
Sophomore forward Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) registered four of SU’s nine shot attempts.
Hall’s classmate Pete Rowley (Reading, Pa.) picked up a red card and was ejected in the 73rd minute. He will be ineligible when the Orange travels to St. John’s on Sept. 27.
Syracuse’s game versus the Red Storm will kick off at 7:30 p.m. from Belson Stadium.
