SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University field hockey team rallied from a three-goal deficit, but could not come all the way back in a 3-2 loss to Vermont today at Coyne Field. SU’s third consecutive loss drops the Orange to 4-5, while the Catamounts improve to 5-4.
Vermont got on the board early, scoring twice in the game’s first two minutes. Meagan Luce and Kelly McClintock both scored on similar looking plays. Kate Lipton setup Luce for a clean shot in front of the cage. Luce provided the assist on McClintock’s goal with a brilliant pass to the center of the attack zone.
“If people are not going to play, I am going to give an opportunity to others so they could show me what they can do. I was very please with how that group responded.” SU head coach Kathleen Parker said. “If you are not mentally ready to play it’s not going to happen. You can’t wish it to happen.”
McClintock would score again at the 24:42 mark to give Vermont a 3-0 lead at half.
