Orange to Play Two Scrimmages at Price Modern "Lacrosse for Leukemia" Fall Invitational

The SU men’s lacrosse squad will play its first two scrimmages of the fall on Saturday, Sept. 30 when it participates in the Price Modern “Lacrosse for Leukemia” Fall Invitational in Brooklandville, Md. The Orange will face off against Towson at 8:30 a.m. and Penn State at 10:00 a.m.
The event will be held at St. Paul’s Schools and benefits The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In addition to the Orange, Tigers and Nittany Lions, traditional Division I lacrosse powers Johns Hopkins and North Carolina will be on hand, as well as Washington College, Rutgers, Albany, Binghamton, UMBC, Mount St. Mary’s, Air Force, St. John’s, Butler, Villanova and Quinnipiac.
Admission for the lacrosse extravaganza is $5.
The Orange is 9-2 all-time versus Towson and owns a 46-11-1 advantage against Penn State.
Syracuse returns four of the seven players that reached double-digit points in 2006. Mike Leveille is SU’s leading returning scorer. He started all 15 games last season and netted 52 points (31g, 21a). Pat Perritt scored 17 goals and had 21 points in his rookie season did classmate Dan Hardy (11g, 10a). Kenny Nims also finished with double-digit points (13) in his first collegiate season.
Starting goalkeeper Peter Coluccini is back in the fold as well. Coluccini started all 15 games for SU and played 853:15 of a possible 905:33 for the Orange in net. He made 181 saves.
Head coach John Desko, who will enter his ninth season as head coach in 2007, owns a 97-30 overall record (.764) and a 19-5 record in the postseason.
Syracuse is also bolstered by a recruiting class ranked ninth in the country by Inside Lacrosse.
The Orange’s final fall tune-up will be the Pumpkin Stickout which will take place at the Manley Field House Athletics Complex on Oct. 14. Hobart Cornell and Division II national champion LeMoyne will compete, along with Syracuse in a round-robin format.
SU was 10-5 in 2006 and advanced to the national semifinals.
