SYRACUSE, NY -- Syracuse basketball great Lawrence Moten has returned to his alma mater to further his education and assist the Orange. Moten has returned to school to finish his degree requirements and will be working with the men’s basketball program providing administrative and operational support to the coaches and staff and working with the student-athletes on personal development matters.
A member of Syracuse's All-Century Team, Moten was a three-time first team All-BIG EAST Conference selection. As a freshman, he was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, third team All-BIG EAST, and a Freshmen All-American. He received honorable mention All-American accolades from the AP as a sophomore and junior. In his senior year, he was a second team All-American selection by the Sporting News and a third team choice of the AP and NABC.
Moten is the all-time leading scorer in Syracuse and BIG EAST history. During his four seasons with the Orange, he amassed 2,334 points in 121 games, an average of 19.3 points per game. He led the team in scoring in each of his final three seasons and was the fourth-fastest player to 1,000 career points, achieving that milestone in only 55 games. He scored in double-figures 118 times in his career, including a streak of 62-consecutive games from 1993-95. He is also third in Syracuse history in three-point field goals (197), sixth in minutes played (4,134), and eighth in steals (215).
The Orange produced an 85-36 overall record during Moten's tenure and reached the NCAA Tournament in three of those seasons. SU won the BIG EAST Conference Tournament in 1991-92, Moten's freshman campaign.
