SYRACUSE - The Syracuse tennis team heads to Hanover, N.H. this weekend for the three-day Dartmouth Invitational Tournament, which begins on Friday Oct. 26. This is the third and final tournament that the team will play in its fall 2007 season.
“We’re in a situation where we are way ahead of where we thought we’d be at this point,” said second-year head coach Luke Jensen. “We’re ahead of the curve and our fitness-level right now is phenomenal. There’s been a ton of energy so far in the fall that the team has been feeding off of. If we can leave the double-faults and errors at home, we’ll do great this weekend.”
The Orange is coming off a successful outing at the Brown Invitational last weekend where Chelsea Jones won all three of her singles matches, freshmen Jacquelynn Tang and Simone Kalhorn each won two of their three singles matches and sophomore Ashley Spicer teamed up with Kalhorn to take three out of their four doubles matches. Jones swept two out of her three wins and was the only undefeated player in Red Flight singles competition.
The team hopes to finish its fall campaign on a positive note before a three-month break that separates its fall and spring seasons. After the Dartmouth Invitational, the Orange will wait until Friday, January 25, 2008 when it kicks off the spring season at home against Big East foe Cincinnati.
