The Orange football squad finishes its road schedule when it travels to Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 17 (12:00 p.m., ESPN2). It will be the fourth nationally-televised contest of the season. In the short history of the series between these two schools, Syracuse leads 2-1. The Orange beat the Huskies in 2004 and 2006.
"They are a good team," said head Orange coach Greg Robinson. "(Quarterback Tyler) Lorenzen has really helped them and now they've moved (D.J.) Hernandez out there and they can maneuver with him a little bit. All in all they are a little bit more experienced than a year ago. You can tell Lorenzen has played a lot of football. The running back situation, I saw (Connecticut head coach) Randy (Edsall) talking the other day about that a year ago they were bitten by the injury bug. This year they've been healthy. Their tandem of running backs has been very productive for them. On the defensive side of the ball, they've just been real consistent. I see them as a very good football team."
The last time fans saw these two teams on the same gridiron, the Orange defense held the Huskies to 266 yards and made three interceptions en route to a 20-14 victory. Orange free safety Joe Fields, who is coming off a career-best 15 tackle performance against South Florida, nabbed a career-high two picks in last year's matchup with the Huskies.
With two games remaining in the 2007 season, several Orange student-athletes have a chance to etch their names in the record books. Freshman special teams performer Max Suter, who already owns the BIG EAST and Syracuse season records for number of kickoff returns (40) and yards (1,042), has a chance to set NCAA season records in both categories.
Sophomore receiver Mike Williams will try to extend his school-record streak of consecutive games with a touchdown reception to eight. He currently is tied for fifth on Syracuse's season receiving touchdown record list (8) and tied for seventh on the career list (12). He owns the record for receptions by a sophomore (45) and is fourth on the sophomore record list for receiving yards in a season (654).
Sophomore defensive tackle Arthur Jones is creeping up on Dwight Freeney's single-season tackles for loss school record (25.5-141). Through 10 games, Jones, who is tied for fourth on the list, has tallied 16.5 tackles for loss for a total of 39 yards.
