Syracuse will play its last away football game of the 2007 season this Saturday (Nov. 17) at 25th-ranked Connecticut (12:00 p.m., ESPN2). It will be the third game for the Orange against a nationally-ranked opponent, including Syracuse's 38-35 victory at #18/19 Louisville in September. Syracuse's 2007 slate is rated the 32nd toughest by the NCAA's cumulative opposition rankings. Both of the Orange's remaining games are against ranked teams in Connecticut and Cincinnati, which has SU's future schedule ranked as the eighth toughest in the nation by the NCAA.
The Orange owns a 2-1 record against Connecticut on the gridiron, having won the first meeting in 2004 and the most recent contest in 2006. Syracuse beat the Huskies 42-30 in the Carrier Dome in 2004. Former Orange tailback Walter Reyes because the first Syracuse back to rush for more than 2,000 yards in the Dome with his 123-yard effort. Defensive end James Wyche had four tackles for a loss in the contest. In 2006 the offensive backfield again led the way with Curtis Brinkley scoring on touchdown on a rush and a second on a reception and Delone Carter pacing the ground attack with 115 yards on 16 carries. Both Brinkley and Carter are currently sidelined by injury and will not play for the rest of the season. True freshman Doug Hogue, junior Paul Chiara and true freshman Max Suter are filling the tailback slot for the Orange for the rest of the season.
Syracuse's 2007 passing game is on pace to be one of the best in school history. The Orange is averaging 220.2 passing yards per game, which ranks fifth on SU's single-season record list. Syracuse sophomore signal caller Andrew Robinson is passing for 190.4 yards per game, which is sixth on the individual single-season record list. Wide receivers Taj Smith and Mike Williams have been Robinson's main targets with 671 and 653 receiving yards, respectively. The most productive receiving duo in Orange history is Shelby Hill (937 yards) and Marvin Harrison (813 yards) in 1993 (1,750 yards total).
