SYRACUSE, N.Y. – An 11-0 Syracuse run has propelled the Orange to a 33-30 lead at halftime against visiting Saint Joseph’s in the second round of the Preseason NIT. Junior sharpshooter Eric Devendorf leads the Orange with 11 points on a stifling 5-for-6 shooting.
Sophomore Paul Harris’ putback lay-in, off a Scoop Jardine missed jumpshot, sparked the Orange’s offensive eruption. An Eric Devendorf fast-break jumpshot forced a Saint Joseph’s 30 second timeout, sending the Carrier Dome faithful into hysterics. Donte’ Greene’s three-ball with 7:22 remaining supplied the Orange with the lead.
Harris has corralled a game-high five rebounds while depositing six points and dropping four assists. Greene has posted eight points on 3-for-7 shooting, including 2-for-4 from long-range.
After a shooting a dismal 23 percent from the floor in the first five minutes, Syracuse heads to the locker room shooting 46.7 percent, including 42.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Darrin Goven’s second trifecta of the first half broke a seven minute scoreless streak for the Hawks. Goven’s leads the Saint Joseph’s offense with 14 points.
