The Syracuse women’s basketball team returns to action today in the final game of the Women’s National Invitational Championship. The Orange matches up with #7/6 North Carolina at 2 p.m. in historic Carmichael Auditorium on the campus of UNC. Second year head coach Quentin Hillsman and the Orange are coming off a 69-65 season-opening victory against Coppin State yesterday.

Second year head coach Quentin Hillsman and the Orange are coming off a 69-65 season-opening victory against Coppin State yesterday.

The Orange had four players in double digits yesterday including senior forward Fantasia Goodwin and sophomore guard Nicole Michael, who each recorded double-doubles.
Goodwin registered 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, including a career-high seven offensive boards. The double-double is the fourth of her Syracuse career. Michael posted 12 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th career double-double.
The Orange was led by junior guard Chandrea Jones, who scored 17 points, grabbed five boards and registered two steals.
Freshman guard Erica Morrow, the first McDonald's All-American to play for the Orange, tallied 14 points, four rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists. Sophomore forward Vionca Murray added nine points and was 4-for-5 from the field.
The Orange owned the glass with 51 rebounds, including 20 offensive boards that led to 18 second chance points.
ABOUT THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina is coming off its third-consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference title and second-straight trip to the Final Four. This season the Tar Heels are off to a perfect 4-0 start. They defeated North Carolina Central (109-32), Arizona State (75-60), Elon (98-53) and Coppin State (92-63). Three UNC student-athletes are averaging double-digits. Rashanda McCants is putting up 16.0 points per game, while Jessica Breland and LaToya Pringle are averaging 13.3 and 11.3, respectively.
ORANGE VS. TAR HEELS ALL-TIME
Syracuse and North Carolina have only met twice in program history and the Heels won both. The No. 22/25-ranked Tar Heels handed the Orange an 81-68 setback in the last meeting on Nov. 19, 2000 at Syracuse. The Orange opened the 1998-99 season with an 85-68 loss at No. 7/NR North Carolina on Nov. 7 in the first-ever meeting.
