SYRACUSE, N.Y. - On Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 4–6 p.m., Syracuse University will hold an event celebrating the renaming of the former International Living Center, a residence hall on Euclid Avenue, to Lyons Hall. The name change honors Oren Lyons ’58, faithkeeper of the Onondaga and director of Native American studies at SUNY Buffalo. Lyons, who is internationally respected for his work as an environmental and human rights advocate, is also an accomplished scholar and athlete, having led SU’s lacrosse team to an undefeated season in 1957.
The dedication ceremony will include remarks from Lyons; retired SU lacrosse coach and Lyons’ close friend and college teammate, Roy Simmons Jr.; and Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor. It will take place on the second floor of the Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center. Following the formal program, which will run from approximately 4:30–5 p.m., SU’s Office of Residence Life will provide tours of the 39-student residence hall.
