The Carrier Dome is not just for football or basketball games. One of the biggest perks of having the only domed stadium on a campus in the Northeast is that the Loud House provides the majority of SU sports teams with a place to practice year round. The softball team invaded the field turf Friday afternoon for practice and then the second session of three with the Syracuse University ROTC, who put the student-athletes through a couple of exercises.
"Now that we are doing the second session, we are starting to see the leadership," said head coach Leigh Ross. "It not only forces our team to work together, but also think outside of the box and outside the lines."
The squad was put through tasks that promote leadership, communication, trust and problem solving. The ultimate goal is to build a cohesive unit that will perform to its highest ability when February and the season rolls around.
The Friday afternoon is also a change of pace for the student-athletes, who managed to get through all of the challenges with smiles on their faces.
"We're thankful that ROTC came out," said associate head coach Kyle Jamieson. "It's a great way to spend a Friday afternoon and I think the characteristics that we are trying to reinforce came in today."
