Freshman forward Donte’ Greene, junior sharpshooter Eric Devendorf and freshman point guard Jonny Flynn ignited a Syracuse scorching long-range attack en route to a resounding 68-39 halftime lead against East Tennessee State at the Carrier Dome on Saturday. The Orange shot a blistering 12-for-19 from beyond the arc on its way to a season-best 68 points at the break.
Syracuse's 68 first-half points is two tallies shy of the program's all-time record of 70, totaled against C.W. Post during the 1989-90.
The Orange pitched a shutout for the first three and a half minutes, racing out to a 16-0 lead before the Buccaneers found the bottom of the net. Syracuse complimented its opening-minutes offensive explosion with a 30-12 run to close out the first half.
Greene led all scorers with 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field, including 4-for-8 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc. Devendorf tallied 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting overall and 5-for-7 from long-range.
Flynn orchestrated an Orange offense that shot 75.8 percent from the field with seven assists. The rookie court general 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the floor, including a marksmenline 3-for-3 display from beyond the arc.
