PROVIDENCE - Syracuse women’s basketball freshman guard Erica Morrow and senior forward Fantasia Goodwin both earned BIG EAST honors while leading the Orange to two victories last week. Morrow was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and Goodwin took home BIG EAST Honor Roll accolades as the Orange extended it winning streak to nine games.
Morrow averaged 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists in Syracuse’s two home victories last week. She shot 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from the field and was 6-of-9 from the foul line. The freshman guard posted 11 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists in SU’s 85-56 win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Dec. 19. Morrow followed that performance with a 13-point and six rebound effort in the Orange’s 81-35 victory versus Saint Peter’s on Dec. 22. She also added three assists and two steals.
Goodwin averaged 18.0 points and 19.0 rebounds as Syracuse improved to 10-1 with two home wins last week. She made 57.7 percent (15-26) of her field-goal attempts in the two contests. The senior forward set an Orange single-game standard by grabbing 25 rebounds in SU’s 81-35 win against Saint Peter’s on Dec. 22. Goodwin also added 17 points en route to her third consecutive double-double. It was her sixth double-double of the season and ninth of her career. Goodwin posted a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds in the 85-56 victory versus UMES on Dec. 19.
The Orange has won nine consecutive games for the only the second time in school history and is 10-1 on the season.
Syracuse returns to action and the Carrier Dome when it hosts Sienna on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.
