Desko to be Honored by Oppenheimer Funds

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange men’s lacrosse coach John Desko has been selected as SU’s 2007 recipient of the Oppenheimer Funds (OFI) Coach’s Achievement Award. He will be honored during the men’s basketball game against Georgetown on Monday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. At halftime against the Hoyas, Desko will be presented with a $5,000 check to be donated to Syracuse University’s general scholarship fund in his name.
Every year since 2005, OppenheimerFunds, Inc. has selected one coach at each BIG EAST school to receive the Coach’s Achievement Award. OFI is also the Official Mutual Funds of the BIG EAST Conference and the presenting sponsor of the BIG EAST Coach of the Year Award for men’s basketball.
Desko has a 97-30 record in his eight seasons as head coach of the Orange. He has led the team to seven appearances in the NCAA semifinals and three national championships. Desko leads all active Division I head coaches in winning percentage (.764).
