Akron, Ohio – Senior Aulton Kohn won his third BIG EAST Championship, emerging victorious in the 200m dash. Kohn was also one of four SU student-athletes to earn all-conference accolades, earning the honor in the 60m dash.
Kohn’s championship in the 200m dash was the first of his career. He won the 60m dash titles the past two seasons. Kohn posted a time of 21.34, 15 hundredths ahead of the runner up. He is the first Syracuse champion in the event since Cory Ward won the title in 1996.
Kohn also finished second in the 60m dash finals, recording a time of 6.85. He finished just four hundredths shy of winning his third consecutive title. Teammate Michael LeBlanc placed fifth in the 60m dash with a mark of 6.90. LeBlanc set the BIG EAST Championship record in the event during the prelims, posting a time of 6.71.
Senior Dan Pribula earned his first All-BIG EAST honors at the indoor championship, placing third in the shot put. He posted a career-best mark of 17.20m en route to the third place finish. Pribula also earned all-conference honors in the shot put at the 2006 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship.
Senior Jake Palas placed third in the heptathlon, recording a career-best mark of 4,746 points and earning All-BIG EAST accolades. Palas is the first SU student-athlete to earn all-conference honors in the heptathlon during the indoor championship.
Junior Jillian Drouin highlighted the first day of competition for SU at the BIG EAST Championship, earning all-conference accolades in the pentathlon. Drouin broke her own school record in the event, posting 3,948 points en route to a second-place finish.
Drouin was edged by West Virginia’s Abbie Stechschulte, who posted 4,016 points. Drouin is the first SU female to earn all-conference accolades in the event sine Keiba Shaw was named to the All-BIG EAST Team in 1990.
Additional highlights at the BIG EAST Championship included the women’s 4x800m relay school-record setting performance. The team of senior Candace Ince, sophomore Stacie Boyle, sophomore Nana Sang-Bender and freshman Maegan Krifchin finished fourth in the event with a time of 9:02.61.
