The Orange plays its first game of the 2007 season at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday evening, squaring off against Albany at 7 p.m. Syracuse lost a hard-fought game on Saturday at sixth-ranked Dartmouth, 11-10. Albany enters the game with a record of 1-2. The Great Danes opened the season with an 18-5 loss to No. 19 Vanderbilt, rebounded to beat Longwood, 16-12 and then lost to Virginia Tech, 13-7.

Syracuse is 5-4 all-time in home openers, winning its last two opening games. Syracuse’s four losses in home openers have all been against top-10 teams. Last season, Syracuse defeated Harvard, 15-9. Syracuse faced Albany in its 2005 home opener, defeating the Great Danes, 17-4.
DOM(E)INATION
Many teams enter the Carrier Dome but very few can claim to leave the Loud House as a winner. Syracuse owns an all-time record of 56-15 (.789 winning percentage) at the Carrier Dome. Last season, the Orange won 8 of 11 games contested in the Dome, including two against ranked opponents.
IMPRESSIVE DEBUT FOR FRESHMEN
Freshmen Christina Dove and Halley Quillinan had an impressive beginning to their Syracuse careers. The duo combined for half of Syracue’s 10 goals against sixth-ranked Dartmouth on Saturday.
Dove led the Orange with three goals against the nationally-ranked Big Green, who finished first in scoring defense during the 2006 season. Dove also led the Orange with four draw controls and three caused turnovers and was second on the team with three groundballs. For her performance, Dove was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Quillinan tallied two goals in her first game with Syracuse. She also added one ground ball and one draw control.
NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
The Orange has dominated play against schools from New York State since its arrival on the women’s lacross scene. The Orange owns a 21-5 all-time record agains in-state schools with all five losses coming to Cornell. Syracuse has never lost to a school from New York at the Carrier Dome, winning all 15 games.
SYRACUSE – ALBANY SERIES
The meeting between Syracuse and Albany is the fifth time the two school will face each other. Syracuse has won each of the four previous meetings. The Orange has outscored the Great Danes by a combined 75-16 and by an average score of 18.75-4. The closest game in the series was last season’s 17-5 SU victory.
In last year’s 17-5 victory, Gaddy Fortune and Katie Rowan each tallied four goals to lead the Syracuse offense. Rowan also posted two assists to total six points. Jen Kasel recorded 10 saves and allowed only five goals in the cage.
SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES
In Albany’s last game against Virginia Tech, the Hokies scored the final seven goals of the first half to head into intermission with a 9-2 advantage. Albany could not overcome the deficit and evenutally lost, 13-7. Freshman Kayla Best led the team with four goals.
Best leads the Great Danes with seven goals this season. Senior Kate Fontana has added five goals and leads the team with seven draw controls. In addition, senior Sarah Spillett (four goals and one assist) and sophomore Jane Bush (three goals and two assists) have also totaled five points on the season.
Senior Jen Daly has started all three games for the Great Danes in the cage. She owns a save percentage of .339 and a goals against average of 13.44. Daly also leads Albany with 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
