Minneapolis, Minn.-The culmination of graduate student Alida DiPlacido’s historic season came at the NCAA Championships at the University of Minnesota on Friday, where the diver came in 11th place in the three-meter and earned honorable mention All-American recognition. She became the first Syracuse female to be named an All-American in over 25 years.
DiPlacido was in 11th place in the three-meter after posting a score of 314.85 in the preliminaries on Friday afternoon. In the consolation final that evening, DiPlacido’s score of 347.35, her third-best this season, maintained her 11th place position and secured her fourth All-American honor.
In the one-meter event on Thursday, DiPlacido came in 24th place with a score of 291.50 in the preliminaries. That score is her third-best of the season. She has earned six points for Syracuse, putting the Orange in a tie for 36th place in the final team standings with Rutgers and South Carolina.
The All-American honor is another achievement added on to the already substantial list she has created this season. She is the Syracuse record holder in the one and three-meter, placed first in 16-of-22 events, won both boards at the BIG EAST Championship and was named the meets Outstanding Female Diver, and won the three-meter at the NCAA Zone A meet.
DiPlacido was a three-time All-American at Texas A&M after reaching the finals in the one-meter, three-meter and platform events during her freshman season. She is the first Syracuse woman diver to reach the NCAA Championships since Samantha Linke did so in 1997 and 1998
