SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Members of the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team will appear at Morgan Road Elementary School in Liverpool on Thursday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. The Orange players will help a group of third graders build their own regulation lacrosse sticks and speak with students about their experiences playing the sport.
The event is part of the students’ social studies unit on Native American culture, and a third-grade class from the Onondaga Nation will also participate as part of the school’s exchange program.
The students will be working under Alfred Jacques, an Onondaga Nation lacrosse expert, who will teach them about the history of lacrosse and its role in Native American culture. In addition, the kids will make sticks from scratch, using wood and donated lacrosse heads.
