Senior Terrence Roberts is coming off the best rebounding game of his career. Roberts hauled in 20 boards versus Notre Dame in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals. It was the most rebounds by an SU player since Billy Owens had 22 against Villanova in the BIG EAST Tournament and was three short of the Orange’s tournament record held by Derrick Coleman.
Rookie Paul Harris also cleaned the glass against the Irish, corralling a personal-high 15 rebounds. He also led the Orange in scoring with a career-best 24 points. It was Harris’ team-leading seventh double-double of the year and the first time in his career he topped the 20-point mark.
South Alabama won the regular season title in the Sun Belt, finishing 13-5, giving them an automatic bid into the NIT. The NIT guarantees slots for teams that win their conference's regular-season title, but lose in the conference tournament. South Alabama was upset by Middle Tennessee State in overtime, 63-60, in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament.
The Jaguars are coached by former Kentucky standout John Pelphfrey and they enter Wednesday’s game on a four-game losing streak. Demetric Bennett is the team’s top scorer at more than 15 points per game. Earnest Little leads the team in rebounding (9.0 rpg) and he has pulled down double-digit boards four times in the last eight contests.
