Four Former SU Lacrosse Players Picked to U.S. National Indoor Team

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Former Syracuse University lacrosse stars Casey Powell, Scott Ditzell, Regy Thorpe, and Pat Cougevan have been named to the 33-man U.S. roster for the 2007 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. All four players were members of national championship teams at SU and currently compete in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Powell is captain of the New York Titans, while Ditzell, Thorpe, and Cougevan play for the Rochester Knighthawks.
Powell was part of SU’s 1995 NCAA Championship squad and finished his career as the program’s all-time leading scorer. In his first season with the expansion Titans, he leads the team in scoring (68 points) and assists (46).
Ditzell helped SU to the 2004 NCAA crown and was an honorable mention All-American in 2005 on defense. He is member of Rochester’s defensive unit and has one assist on the year and 47 loose balls.
Fellow Knighhawks’ defenders, Thorpe and Cougevan, were teammates on the Orange’s 1993 national championship team. Thorpe has three assists for the Knighthawks and 40 loose balls. Cougevan has 11 loose balls in nine games.
The 2007 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship will take place from May 14-20, at the Halifax Metro Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Eight nations will compete in the 2007 Championship - USA, Canada, Australia, England, Ireland, Czech Republic, Scotland, and the Iroquois Nationals.
Team USA will be coached by Tom Ryan.
