CHICAGO – The Syracuse University softball team (10-22, 3-3) lost a pair of BIG EAST games to No. 18/23 DePaul today. The Orange lost 8-0 in five innings in game one and 4-3 in game two. Senior Erin Gray recorded two hits, including SU’s lone hit in game one and all of the Orange’s three RBI in game two.
Gray recorded SU’s lone hit in game one. She singled to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Lindsay Wasek. Sophomore Nicole Miller was Syracuse’s only other base runner, reaching first on a throwing error by DePaul’s catcher. Gray moved to third on the same play, but the Blue Demons managed to get the final two outs of the inning.
DePaul scored twice in the third in game two, but Gray doubled to right field in the fourth inning to score sophomore Amy Kelley and juniors Chanel Roehner and Rachel Tilford, giving the Orange a 3-2 lead.
The Blue Demons tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth and Sandy Vojik hit a solo home run in the sixth to give DePaul the 4-3 win.
Roehner pitched a complete six innings, allowing four runs, all earned, while striking out three.
Syracuse will continue its road trip with a doubleheader against BIG EAST rival Notre Dame on Sunday, April 1 in South Bend, Ind. First pitch of the first game is scheduled for noon.
