Orange Ends Road Trip at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Syracuse University softball team (10-24, 3-5) was defeated twice today by BIG EAST foe Notre Dame. The Orange lost 7-0 in game one and 10-2 in five innings in game two. Sophomore Keri Casas and sophomore Nicole Miller registered Syracuse’s two RBI on the day.
Notre Dame pounded out 16 hits to Syracuse’s one in the first game of the day.
Freshman Ev Anderson tallied SU’s only hit in game one, a bunt to the pitcher in the first inning. Anderson advanced to second on a passed ball and sophomore Tonye McCorkle put down a sacrifice bunt to get Anderson to third with one out. The Orange however, was unable to bring Anderson home.
Syracuse put base runners into scoring position in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not get the key hit.
Junior RHP Chanel Roehner pitched a complete game for the second consecutive time. She struck out three in six innings of work.
The Fighting Irish jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game two, scoring six in the third and three in the fourth.
The Orange scored its only two runs of the day in the fifth inning of game two. Casas recorded a pinch hit RBI single that scored senior Erin Gray and Miller registered a RBI when she put the ball in play to bring home sophomore Jorden Rosen.
ND added a run in the fifth to end the contest, 10-2. Sophomore Brittany Gardner pitched all 4.1 innings for SU, recording two strikeouts.
Syracuse opens the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against Binghamton on Tuesday, April 3 at Skytop Softball Stadium. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
