Anderson Leads SU to Split at FSU Invite

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Syracuse University softball team (3-14) split a pair of games in the first day of competition at the Florida State Invitational. The Orange won its first game of the day, shutting out Maine (10-6), 6-0, before losing to the host school RV/25 Florida State Seminoles (13-7). Freshman Ev Anderson had a big day for SU, going 5-for-7 (.714) with two runs scored, a RBI and a stolen base.
In the first game, Syracuse pounded out six runs on 13 hits. Anderson led the Orange, going 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Heather Him and junior Chanel Roehner both went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kim also had a RBI. Sophomore Amy Kelley and junior Rachel Tilford also had a RBI for SU, with Kelley recording two and Tilford one.
Freshman RPH Brittany Gardner threw seven shutout innings, allowing only six hits.
The Orange struck first with a leadoff a single from Anderson. She advanced to second on an error and stole third before being brought home by Kim.
Anderson also played a part in SU’s second run, recording her first career RBI on a single that scored senior Erin Gray.
SU exploded for four more runs in the fourth as the first five batters recorded hits to begin the inning.
In the second game, Florida State scored runs in scored five runs in the first three innings.
The Seminoles manufactured their first run on a base hit, a stolen base and a fielder’s choice. Michelle Snyder hit a solo home run for FSU’s second run and LaShaun Davis tripled to begin the Seminoles’ three-run third inning.
The Orange put runners in scoring position in three innings, but could not get the key hit to score a run.
Syracuse continues plat at the Florida State Invitational on Saturday, competing against Georgia State and Appalachian State.
