SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Bridget Looney (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore attacker Katie Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) have both been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll following their performances against top-ranked Northwestern on Friday.
Looney posted one goal and led the team with four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers against the Wildcats. She was part of a defensive unit that held the second-highest offense to more than five goals below its season average.
Looney, who earned WomensLax.com Player of the Week on March 20, has posted 10 points on nine goals and one assist this season. She leads the Orange 24 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers and has also picked up 10 draw controls. Looney ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 2.67 ground balls per game and 1.67 caused turnovers per game.
Rowan accounted for four goals against No. 1 Northwestern, who entered the game with the nation’s top defense, giving up only 5.5 goals per game. She recorded three goals and one assist to lead the Orange offense.
Rowan leads Syracuse with 38 points this season on a team-best 26 goals and 12 assists. She ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 3.8 points per game, fourth with 2.6 goals per game and fifth with 1.2 assists per game. Rowan also was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on March 5, recording six goals and three assists in two games.
Looney, Rowan and the Orange return to action on April 11, squaring off at Colgate.
