The Syracuse women's tennis team (6-8, 2-3 BIG EAST) hosts a pair of BIG EAST foes in its final weekend of the 2007 regular season. The Orange takes on Seton Hall on Friday , April 6, at 5 p.m. and DePaul on Sunday, April 8, both at the Drumlins Tennis Center. At Friday's match, Syracuse will honor its senior class of Katie Bramante, Carolina Huignard, and Ashley Lipton, and have an appearance by Otto.
The Class of 2007 has amassed 343 wins in their four years and helped the Orange placed second at the 2005 BIG EAST Tournament. Their achievements are not limited to the court, however. They have also excelled academically with a slew of Athletic Director's Honor Roll, BIG EAST Academic All-Star and ITA Scholar-Athlete All-American honors on their resumes.
Along with honoring the achievements of the senior class, the Orange is also trying to finish the season strong and qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. Two more BIG EAST wins would entrench SU safely in the BIG EAST field, but nothing is for certain yet. There are several BIG EAST matches on the sschedule that follow the next weekend. The Orange is playing some of its best tennis of the season at the moment, winning four of its last six matches, including a pair of BIG EAST triumphs.
Junior Olga Votavova is one of the strongest players in the conference. She leads the Orange with an 11-3 record in dual match singles play, including a 9-3 mark at No. 1, and has won six-consecutive matches.
The BIG EAST Tournament will be held April 19-22 at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
