Orange Football Earns 16th AFCA Academic Honor

Waco, Texas – The 2006 Syracuse Orange football team received the 2007 Academic Achievement Honorable Mention Award from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). SU was among 32 schools in the nation named to the honorable mention list. Northwestern and Notre Dame shared the 2007 AFCA Academic Achievement Award.
The award is presented annually by the Touchdown Club of Memphis, which Syracuse won in 2000 for having a graduation rate of 100 percent. This is the 16th time that the Orange has been recognized by the AFCA for its academic achievement, which ranks eighth among all other schools in the country. It is also the most honors for by a BIG EAST Conference school. Rutgers is second with five appearances on the list.
Notre Dame is tops in the nation with 26 appearances since 1981. They have been recognized every year since 1982. Duke (24), Virginia (22), Boston College (19), Rice (19), Vanderbilt (19) and Penn State (17) are second through seventh.
