Syracuse University’s 21 athletics teams all earned satisfactory Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The APR is a real-time assessment of teams' academic performance. It awards two points each term to student-athletes who meet academic-eligibility standards and who remain with the institution. A team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible. Syracuse’s teams all scored more than the standard of 925. The NCAA imposes immediate or contemporaneous penalties in sports that do not meet the standard.
“We are extremely pleased to meet our goals of having an extraordinary academic culture in our athletics program,” said director of athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. “We want our student-athletes to be scholars and champions. We will continue to strive for excellence.”
Syracuse’s men’s and women’s cross country teams 2006-07 Public Recognition Awards for having a perfect multiyear APR. The award celebrates Division I teams in the top 10 percent of the APR for each sport. Head coach Chris Fox’s men’s and women’s cross country teams each scored a perfect 1,000 in the three-year period (2003-04 through 2005-06). Syracuse is one of 13 schools to earn the award in both men’s and women’s cross country.
Seventy-four Syracuse University senior student-athletes will participate in the University’s 153rd commencement on Sunday, May 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the Carrier Dome. Commencement is open to the public.
